The invention of the Internet has obviously brought about real opportunities and endless possibilities, one of great importance is getting access to information which is very important in the Educational system globally. Here in Nigeria its been reported in THISDAY Newspaper (April 9/2014) that the MTN Foundation , the corporate social investment vehicle of MTN Nigeria, is trying to start up a project tagged “Universities Connect”, they intend to build a Virtual Libraries with the intention of providing unlimited access to materials for courses like Architecture, Engineering, Law, Medicine Arts in order to improve learning and teaching conditions from primary to tertiary level.
There are presently four Universities in Nigeria having these virtual libraries , each virtual library has 128 networked computers, three servers, two high capacity printers, a sound proof 100KVA generator, VSAT equipment and internet connectivity with a two-year subscription. MTN Foundation also pays the subscription fee for electronic resources such as e-books, journals, magazines covering all subjects.
